Other variables that tin can dry skin on heels enough to fissure are historic period (your skin gets thinner, less elastic and some common medications can contribute) and, of form, winter can be quite the culprit. "Heels are at their worst in wintertime," says Solomon. "Indoors and outdoors there is less humidity in the air, and a lack of humidity causes the skin to go drier. Drier skin means more than dandy and peeling." This kind of corking can cause wounds that tin hands become infected if not treated, and if yous happen to accept a compromised immune system or diabetes, an infection can become a serious health risk, Solomon says.

"Using a foot file on your feet after a shower or bath can exist a great style to avoid thick calluses or cracks," she says. "Withal, if the file has abrupt teeth, it is putting y'all at risk for cuts or scrapes. The goal is to remove the old, dead skin just exit the healthy layer intact to protect [against] infection."

3. Seal up deep cracks

Croaky heels that accept reached the indicate where they've started to bleed tin can exist extremely painful, warns Solomon. Both experts say liquid bandages are an extremely effective way of sealing upwards cracks to ease the pain of walking on torn skin while keeping the wounds make clean.

iv. Wearable socks made of natural materials

To forbid this from happening, she advises choosing winter socks made from natural materials, such as cotton or wool rather than synthetic blends, to keep your feet sweat and leaner-free. "Materials like cotton wool and wool are naturally more absorptive and these wet-wicking qualities are extremely important during the wintertime months. An added bonus is that your feet are less likely to olfactory property, besides," she says.
