Case Processing Times
Introduction to Case Processing Times
USCIS displays instance processing times for select forms and locations to let people know how long it generally takes to process benefit requests and when they tin can submit a service request for a case that is "outside normal processing time." We update case processing times on the website monthly with the latest available data.
This webpage provides information on how to read and interpret the processing times on the website. Information technology also provides details on the ii different methodologies that we use to summate processing times.
Where can I find my form number and the office that is processing my case?
Your receipt notice has primal information you will need to determine your processing time.
Note:
If the "USCIS Office" is the National Benefits Middle (NBC) and you have filed an employment-based or family-based Form I-485, Grade N-400, or Form Northward-600, you should check processing times for your local field role.
Definitions
(Example)
Estimated time range: This column lists case processing times as a range for select forms and locations. The lower value of the range is the fourth dimension information technology took us to adjudicate l% of our cases. The upper value of the range is the time it took us to consummate 93% of our cases. See beneath for a clarification of how these ranges are calculated.
Course type: A clarification of the sub-type (for case, Grade Northward-400, Application for Naturalization).
Receipt engagement for a case research: The receipt date indicates when a person can submit a service request for a example that is "outside normal processing time." Someone who has a receipt date before the "Receipt date for a case inquiry" tin can submit such a asking online.
You tin can also view processing times for the Administrative Appeals Part and international offices. Yous tin also find processing times for Course I-765, Application for Employment Authorization.
Methodologies for Calculating Processing Times
Nosotros use two methodologies for calculating processing times: cycle fourth dimension (our old method) and processing fourth dimension (our new method).
We have used the erstwhile method (wheel time) to mensurate processing fourth dimension since 2009. Every bit described in more detail beneath, it relies on amass pending and receipt counts, not private case processing information. In 2018, we began using bodily case record information for greater accuracy of the information we posted on our website. Listed below are the forms that we currently post processing times for and the methodology associated with each form.
Nosotros use the wheel fourth dimension methodology for Forms:
- I-129
- I-129CW
- I-129F
- I-130
- I-212
- I-360
- I-600

- I-730
- I-800
- I-800A
- I-821
- I-918

- N-565
Nosotros use the processing time methodology for Forms:

- I-140
- I-407
- I-485
- I-526
- I-539

Nosotros are working to movement forms that employ the bicycle fourth dimension methodology to the processing time methodology.
Bicycle Fourth dimension Methodology
Bicycle fourth dimension is the number of previous months of receipts it takes to equal the current month's awaiting receipt volume.
For instance, if a specific form has 500 applications pending for the month of April 2020 and received 200 receipts in February 2020 and 300 receipts in March 2020, then the cycle fourth dimension for this form in Apr 2020 is 2 months (200 + 300 = 500 awaiting applications). This is defined equally the lower range value. The upper range value is normally the lower range value x 1.3.
For example, if the bicycle time is 2 months, then the upper range value would exist 2 months x 1.3 = 2.6 months (rounded up to three months).
In this example, the range posted on the website for this form for April 2020 would be 2 Months to 3 Months.
Processing Time Methodology
Processing fourth dimension is the number of months that elapse between the engagement we receive an application, petition, or request and the appointment we consummate the application, petition, or request (that is, when we approved or denied it) for all cases for a specific form for the latest completed 6 months.
For instance, if USCIS received a Form I-914 application on February. 23, 2020 and completed the application on Apr five, 2020, and so the processing time for that specific application is 41 days. We brand this calculation for every Course I-914 application that we consummate in a specific menstruation (in our example here, this would be April 2020). We and so calculate the median value (or 50th percentile) for all Form I-914 applications we completed from November 2019 to April 2020 inclusive, which represents the lower range value. We also calculate the 93rd percentile, which represents the upper range value (or the "Receipt engagement for a case enquiry"). For example, for Apr 2020 for
Course I-914, our processing times ranged from nineteen.five months to 26.5 months. This means that we adjudicated half our cases in 19.5 months or less (the 50% marker) and 93% of our applications in under 26.v months. We completed the remaining vii% over 26.5 months.
In this example, the range posted on the website for Form I-914 for April 2020 would be 19.5 Months to 26.5 Months.
Why Use the Processing Fourth dimension Methodology?
The processing fourth dimension methodology provides the most precise and up-to-date information available because it is based on the most recently completed cases. The cycle time methodology provides an estimate of case processing times, using slightly older data.
Historical Processing Times
We provide a history of our median historical processing times for select forms. This information includes the cumulative median processing time by fiscal year (Oct. ane-Sept. xxx), using the processing time methodology.
